Dogging

Enjoying the unseasonably warm weather with my four legged friends. I'm wearing a 1930s embroidered coat, 1940s silk dress, Corso Como boots and a 1970s felt hat.

Amelia Earheart 2K12

I'm feeling these aviator caps that are popping up on the NYC streets. Do I sense a new trend? Let's fly away!

Sunset in New York

Only a day before the winter solstice, I found myself caught in an intense play of shadows while the sun was setting around 4 o'clock. The high line and surrounding buildings were likt up with eerie oranges, purples, and blues that seem characteristic of an early winter evening.

I have a summer dress problem (way too many of them), so I've looking for ways to transition them into winter. I toughened up the florals with biker accessories and my mom's vintage sunnies.

A Reminder that a Baby is only an Accessory

Thanks Posh for this helpful reminder that a baby is not so much a newborn child as a complement to your Louboutins (very beautiful ones at that),

Let's Hear It for The Boys

I had been wanting to do a menswear post for a while, but I have to admit that I was pretty baffled by men's fashion. Most guys I know hate to shop, like really hate it. The get clothes from moms or girlfriends on their various holidays and as a result their style lacks an argument of design that is seen more in womenswear.

But I don't give you guys enough credit, men have been really pulling it together, thanks largely to a growing appreciation for vintage fashions and of course fashion blogs. Photographers like the Sartorialist favor dapper European men who haven't lost their love of the pocket square. A Conversation on Cool and The Impossible Cool inspire us with vintage photographs of the most effortlessly beautiful people who ever lived. Then of course, blogs like A Continuous Lean and The Art of Manliness give overall guides on how to be a modern man.

Our shoot was inspired by images from a 1950s motorcycle tour of Europe. Under the strict guidance of my friend Dave (who also lent us his wardrobe and modeling skills), we biked through Brooklyn capturing the little moments along the way.

Paisley Explosion

New Yorkers are notorious for loving black. But when I see such a vacuum of color, I recoil. For me, the brighter the more patterns, the better. So when I spotted this shirt from Munrowski & Mits at the Brooklyn flea, I knew it was made for me. Sheer cotton fabric- yes. Paisley print- yes. Purple tones- yes. This shirt just says "I am having more fun than you are".

Apple Picking

There is a strange exodus that happens in Autumn. Thousands of New Yorkers commute upstate (meaning Westchester) to enjoy a fall afternoon getting back to their rustic roots. Apple picking is an opportunity to do enough manual labor to deserve a snack. And let's be honest, that's much more fun than being an actual farmer.

Cowgirl

Denim and cowhide make me crave tobacco. It stirs a borrowed memory of dusty horses and well worn boots. Thanks to a young lad named Sam, I smoked a delicious cigarette on a warm October day. My outfit pays homage no only to the brand, but to the god and the myth of the Marlborough Man, as told by Richard Prince.

Mango Mamacita

What happens when Neon Mamacita meets Ms. Mango Lassie? Ladies who Lunch on a Budget of course! Dressed to the nines, we crossed the intersection of Hipster and Stroller to visit Trois Pommes Patisserie in Park Slope. I have never had such a delicious quiche- butter, cream, egg, bacon and lots of it. The list goes on. For more about the food and more cheap eats visit TheMangoLassie.com

Like the outfits? Buy select pieces at Neon Mamacita Vintage. My hat by Rumi Tsuda.

Fashion Week Street Styles

Fashion week street style keeps the eye educated. It is the time when women with taste and the money to buy taste, strike poses whenever physically possible. Capturing street style takes energy, agression, and chutzpah, which creates an increasingly blurry line between photographers and paparozzo. Needless to say, however, their efforts are changing the way that we think about fashion. Although their subjects hardly represent "street" style, they are making waves by pushing the creative envelope and creating a new level of fashion consciousness.

High Line Street Style

The High Line is one of those projects that sounds great, too great, so you assume it will never get built. There will be budget cuts or community opposition or union negotations, so when it The High Line opened in June of 2009, it felt like a miracle- right when New York needed one. It is a park for promenades, a place to walk arm and arm, and a place to take pictures. My favorite part about these photographs are the passerbys, the pedestrians caught unknowingly on film.
