Everybody's got a mama. And most people love their mamas, which explains why on May 13th more people will buy flowers than any other day of the year. Flowers are great, but if you want to mix it up, I've created a selection of picks from Etsy that are sure to please that special lady.

Neon Mamacita's First Video
At our last photoshoot, we had an extra half hour of studio time, a light set up, and a pair of computer speakers. That was enough- our first music video was born. Its a silly little thing, just me doing my dance routine in my outfits (which also happens to be my favorite thing to do). But thanks to Brian Papish, video editor extraordinaire, I think this video has some spunk.

Now you Can have your Cake and Wear it Too
It is a rare and wonderful thing when an image is innovative, smart, beautiful, and funny all at once. That's why T Magazine's ode to digestion, Salad Days, is such a triumphant piece. As they did in their previous collaboration, Diamond in the Roughage, Richard Burbridge and Robbie Spencer disguise svelte models behind mounds of colorful excess.
Of course, they were not the first to see anthropomorphic shapes in food. Back, way back, in the 16th century Giuseppe Arcimboldo started turning bowls of fruit into people's heads. This guy must have had a sense of humor because while everyone else was painting the Pieta or the Resurrection, he was painting a man made of fish; specifically one with a sea lion above his right ear.
So here's a toast to food; to eating, playing, and wearing it.

Fur and Feathers: Fashion Week 2012
Tommy Ton has the rare gift of finding beauty in the details, and the rarer gift of being able to capture that beauty for the rest of us. Here are some of my favorite pics of his from Fashion Week 2012. Best of all, we still have Milan and Paris left to go.

Occupied
I frantically checked Twitter, trying to find out where the Occupiers were. It was October 15 and social media was abuzz, #OccupyWallStreet promised civil disobedience at the Citibank on Laguardia Pl. My adrenaline rose with each step towards Zuccotti Park, I couldn't wait to see the voice of my discontent.
But it wasn't my voice. It was too many voices with too many interests, united only by their frusteration in the status quo. And that is not enough for a movement.
Occupy feels like it is on the verge of being hijacked by people defined by their anger. I saw too many Ron Paul signs, too many V for Vendetta masks, heard too many conspiracy theorists to hope that this was a rational movement.
Zuccotti Park had the feeling of a Phish show gone on way too long. There were bags and garbage everywhere and it wasn't clear who was homeless and who was a protester. And while Times Square drew thousands of people, most of the energy was put towards challenging the police rather than collective thought.
At this point, the movement has gone on too long without a coherent message or a real leader. There is so much energy right now, but I fear that it will be taken over by extremists and the center left will have missed its chance. I admire the attention and support that they have garnered so far, but now we need to exploit the momentum. Now is the time for Occupy to Act.

High Line Street Style

The High Line is one of those projects that sounds great, too great, so you assume it will never get built. There will be budget cuts or community opposition or union negotations, so when it The High Line opened in June of 2009, it felt like a miracle- right when New York needed one. It is a park for promenades, a place to walk arm and arm, and a place to take pictures. My favorite part about these photographs are the passerbys, the pedestrians caught unknowingly on film.
I am wearing a 1950's Silk Floral Dress, jewlery is vintage and from Fuego 718, shoes by Joan & David

Deuce: A day at the US Open
I love everything about the US Open- the tennis whites, the 7 train ride, R-Fed- but there is nothing I like more than watching a player have a tantrum on the court. I have played tennis all of my life and nearly everytime I play, I have a nervous breakdown. It's my serve; it's my toss; but usually it's my backhand. Seeing the pros break down and scream, curse at themselves, throw their racquets, hit their shoes, bite on some balls, gives me solace. After all, misery loves company. Especially at the US Open.

The Wassaic Project
This past weekend, my brother had three photographs in The Wassaic Project Summer Festival and I needed little convincing. I needed to get the fuck out of New York City. I needed to see some art, hear some music, smoke something. The Wassaic Project Summer Festival satisfied these basic needs and more. It is an arts collective based in teeny tiny historic town in upstate New York. Best thing about it, they own the bar. It was an excellent weekend indeed.
