We've Moved!

Don't worry, the site's not closing, just moving! I'm more excited about this site than ever. I've moved to a fresh and clean new site! I'm really excited about the new design, check it out at neonmamacita.com. You might have noticed some fishy business in the past couple of days, but we are officially up and running. We are still working on moving all archived posts to the new site, so you might notice a couple more snafus. Not to worry, all the old links will still work, and Neon Mamacita is looking better than ever.

One important note: if you're following me through an RSS feed, please update your subscription to the new RSS feed.

Looking forward to seeing you at the new site. Enjoy!

Who wore it better?

You buy a dress, it looks great, you wear it to a party. But wait, another bitch is wearing the same mo-tha- fuck-ing thing. That ain't right. But apparently, it happens to boys too. Hence the nearly coordinated arrival of Nick and Dave in the same spectacular J Crew shirt. Obvs, these guys got style.

But who wore it better? I guess Dave wins purely because he had the cutest little puppy in tow. But Nick's Met's hat put up a good fight.

Acid House Party

In this photoshoot we pay homage to the technocolor scene of the early days of electronic music, when raves were known by their more evocative name "Acid House Parties" ( I can only imagine the fear on parents' faces when their children said , "Don't worry mom, I'll be home before 6, I'm just going to an acid house party"). Madchester, Tony Wilson, and of course ecstasy turned this fringe music scene into a global party phenomena.

Of course this dance scene is still alive and kicking. Even if you aren't at a warehouse party in Bushwick the elements of a rave- the lights and beats- can be found in nearly all music events. So here we are to celebrate the origins and the spectacle of Acid House Parties.

A Wanderlust Mood Board: Take Me Away From Here.... and Bring Me to the Beach!

It's getting to be that time of year, when resort collections are a constant reminder that I am not going to any resort. The beach cover ups, the straw hats and totes stir up a deep seeded envy of anybody living in warm climates. So I am forced to travel via this post to some amazing locales, where the drink of the day is a Mai Thai.

Chanel x India

I'm usually not a huge fan of Chanel (Gasp!), I find it a bit overblown and staid. But I'm loving Karl's pre-fall Indian inspired collection with gold foil and ivory silks complemented by tikkas and absurd amounts of jewlery.  Now I'm just waiting for the day when a white girl can pull off a sari, off the runway of course.

Vive La Decadance

The women in this shoot by Jeff Bark for Dazed and Confused are not so much decadent as satirically perverse. The shoot lacks the overflowing macaroons and ribbons of Marie Antoinette and replaces them with figures reminiscent of a syphilitic whorehouse. While their forms might be discomforting, the photographs are undoubtedly beautiful. They immediately reminded me of John Currin's paintings by their ability to make unapologetic fetishism beautiful.
