Comme des Garcons Makes Fashion Week a Little Brighter

In a relatively uninspired season, Comme des Garçons literally stood out. The designer, Rei Kwakubo, played with dimensionality and repitition to a superb effect. The final pieces of the show flattened dresses until they became illusions of the real thing, While other pieces bulked up, with sculptural flowers and clouds tumbling off the clothes. A hint of playfulness with colors and patterns invaded all the pieces making if one of the most memorable of the season, albeit one of the least wearable.

2012 Bitches

My New Year's tradition is trying to get the hell out of New York. Call me crazy but paying $150 for a champagne toast then hunting down a cab in the frozen tundra that is Brooklyn, just doesn't sound like a good time to me. Luckily. I've got an awesome group of friends in Portland (Oregon that is), where all we need is a big pan of paella and a trip to the Slammer, the best dive bar in town.

A girl with a wiggle in her walk, a giggle in her talk, makes the world go round

A girl with a wiggle in her walk, a giggle in her talk, makes the world go round
There ain't nothing in the world like a big eyed girl to make me act so funny make me spend my money
Make me fool real loose like a long necked goose
But baby I ain't got no money honey

More Marilyn after the jump!

Artist Logan White uses nudity unapologetically. Sometimes it is pretty, but mostly it is boney and buried under the shadow of a color bomb. Her subjects are inviting, apart from the Sinew on a Steinway, which seems a rebuff to the playfulness of her other work. While she praises her idol, Nobuyoshi Araki for his"ability to make even the most subjects be about sex of death astounding," this seems equally apropos to her work.
