Governors Ball was one of those days that could gone really wrong- but it had two killer ingredients- great friends and great music.
When I heard the words 'dance party' and 'Governors Island' in the same sentence, my reaction was hells yes. Unfortunately, the concert took place in a field more appropriate for bovines. The space had no character- no trees or shade, overpriced greasy food, half assed "art" installations (giant cardboard headphones are not sculpture).
But then the music started. People Under the Stairs really kicked off the party. Then Big Boi stepped up to the plate with some old-school Outkast. The back up dancers of Empire of the Sun stole the show with their moves. Girl Talk was fun but dragged on way too long, his mixes don't justify a 2 hour set. Then after all the energy of the day, Pretty Lights wasn't bringing it. But I was ready for bed.
Ferry. Train. Home.
